Massachusetts Street reopened to traffic Friday morning, and now motorists should get a weeklong break from downtown roadwork, city leaders said.
Crews finished repaving and marking the stretch of street Friday morning. The entire project covered Massachusetts Street from Sixth to North Park Street.
The project will continue with work on Seventh and on Kentucky streets, but not until after the July 4 holiday. Crews will resume repaving work during the week of July 7. Milling and overlay work will occur on Seventh Street from Vermont to New York streets, and on Kentucky Street from Sixth to 12th streets.
All parking will be removed from Seventh Street during the project. Parts of the street will be closed during certain periods of work. New Hampshire and Vermont streets will be open during the work.
On Kentucky Street, work will reduce traffic to one lane during the milling process. During the paving process, crews will close a three-block section for a day at a time. No parking will be allowed on Kentucky during the project.
Crews will not work on July 17 to accommodate the Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale.
