Dump the Pump raises ridership 35 percent

Soaring gasoline prices fueled daily ridership of the T on Thursday’s Dump the Pump Day.

“The goal of Dump the Pump was to increase awareness of having public transportation, especially for those impacted by rising fuel costs,” said Cliff Galante, public transit administrator.

Average daily ridership on the T this month before Dump the Pump was 1,362.

“We had 1,842 people ride on Thursday,” Galante said. “It’s a 35 percent increase. It’s great that people are willing to try it, and we’re hoping they can stick with it and incorporate it into their lives.”
