Kansas seeks to score through BIO hoops

Kansas’ delegation to the BIO International Convention this week in San Diego is looking to build on momentum established by the Kansas University’s NCAA champion basketball team in convincing researchers, companies and other players in the bioscience industry to consider competing from home courts in Kansas.

At the state booth, officials are handing out basketballs, according to the San Diego Union – a sample of swag competing for attention against complimentary Crocs from a Korean stem cell research firm, mini remote-controlled cars from the Chicago Technology Park and an emergency flashlight/beacon from a law firm.

“Being NCAA champions in men’s basketball makes us walk tall and stand proud, but as we meet with bioscience industry leaders across the state and throughout our region, it is clear we are also bioscience champions,” said Angela Kreps, president of the Kansas BIO, in materials distributed at the convention.
