Amtrak service delays continue

Service expected to resume Saturday

Amtrack service on the Southwest Chief line, between Kansas City, Mo., and Galesburg, Ill., continues to be disrupted by flooding in the Midwest, despite an announcement yesterday declaring the route restored.

The Southwest Chief continues from Kansas City through Lawrence and Topeka. Earlier this week, Amtrak said the use of buses may delay trains into Lawrence because the train can’t leave Kansas City until the buses arrive.

The rail carrier will provide buses to transport passengers between the two destinations, with the exceptions of La Plata, Mo., Fort Madison, Iowa, Mendota, Ill., and Naperville, Ill. Amtrak is offering passengers ticketed for those destinations other travel options at stations along the route.

Service is expected to resume tomorrow.
