Ticket slap

To the editor:

I love hearing live music but can only afford to go to a couple of carefully chosen concerts a year. This year, I decided to splurge on advance single-day tickets for Sunday at the Wakarusa Festival, spending $115.90 on two tickets with $17.90 of that going to “support a local business” as it said on the Web site, and I could feel OK with that.

In an apparently last-minute gesture of good will, Sunday was deemed a “free” day for Douglas Countians courtesy of the Lawrence Journal-World and festival organizers. Great for those folks, but fools like me now held worthless tickets. This was the first and last time I will buy Wakarusa tickets. That the evening’s bands were canceled due to sickness and storms is unfortunate but beside the point, and does not diminish the sting of this slap in the face.
