Douglas County Senior Services Inc., in cooperation with Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas, SHICK, is recruiting volunteers to become counselors to help people understand Medicare.
Training will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 24 and 25 and July 8 and 9. Lunch will be provided.
New counselors must complete the first three days of training, which cover topics such as supplemental insurance, the prescription drug program and long-term care insurance. The fourth day is an update for current volunteers and optional for new ones.
Trained volunteers have the opportunity to work one-on-one with local Medicare beneficiaries and to staff local call centers for a statewide hotline.
To learn more, contact the Community Services Department at Douglas County Senior Services at 842-0543.
