To the editor:

After looking at the front page of the June 9 edition of the Journal-World I have to ask the question: Did anyone at the J-W read the front page before it was printed? Putting the puff piece about “carrying heat” next to the tragic story of two people murdered was beyond belief.

Have you no mind or heart at all? Here are two people dead – young people, shot to death with a gun – and you run an article next to it about some reporter twirling in front of a mirror to see how his gun looks! Three lives lost (including a 16-year-old who may spend the rest of his life in prison) and you run an article about some reporter and his new gun.

What about the gun that killed the two young men on Delaware Street? Perhaps the fellow who wrote the article about “carrying heat” will someday interview the young man who was also “carrying heat” on Delaware Street and the two of them can chat about what to wear and where to wear a loaded deadly weapon in Lawrence. Talk about mindless journalism – you guys take the cake on Monday!
