School district worker moved to KU Hospital

A Lawrence school district maintenance worker who suffered a medical emergency Tuesday has been transferred to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., Lawrence police said Wednesday.

A hospital spokesman said a condition update was unavailable Wednesday due to the hospital’s patient privacy policy.

District administrators said the man suffered from the medical condition around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, and it apparently caused a district vehicle to strike a tree at the southeast corner of Sixth and Maine streets.

Witnesses and emergency workers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man at the scene, said Tom Bracciano, the district’s director of operations and facility planning. The man was in critical condition after the accident, Bracciano said.

Police said the driver was eastbound in the center turn lane on Sixth Street, and the van came to rest against a curb and a small tree. Police said the collision did not cause his injuries.
