KTKA 49 ABC News wins five AP awards

KTKA 49 ABC News, Topeka, received five awards from The Associated Press for stations in Kansas and Missouri.

The awards, presented Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.: First place, Best Sportscast, for “The Locker Room Show”; first place, Best Spot News, for “May Flood”; first place, Enterprise Story, for “Superhero AG”; second place, Enterprise Story, for “Houses From Hell”; and second place, Best Newscast, “KTKA 49 ABC News at 10.”

The awards reflect the station’s ongoing ability to make a difference in news coverage, said Ike Walker, news director.

“Every day, this team shows the dedication and innovation to produce award-winning stories and newscasts that impact the lives of our viewers here in northeast Kansas,” Walker said.

KTKA 49 ABC News – channel 12 on Sunflower Broadband – is a division of Free State Communications LLC, which is owned by The World Company, the Lawrence-based media company that also owns the Journal-World.
