Salvation Army seeking music festival volunteers

The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to work four-hour shifts Thursday through Monday at the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival to raise money for the ongoing work of the Lawrence Salvation Army.

Volunteers must be at least 16 and are needed to replenish paper towels and toilet paper around the festival and to serve as cashiers for showers.

¢ Watkins Community Museum of History is looking for docents to give guided tours of the upcoming Smithsonian traveling exhibit, “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music,” from June 27 to August 10.

Docents must attend a session from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 12 at the museum.

¢ Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care seeks volunteers with hairdressing experience to cut hospice patients’ hair.

¢ The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual summer camp program is searching for males age 17 and older to be camp volunteers Saturday through June 14. The camp is at the Tall Oaks Conference Center in Linwood, and applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check and be physically able to lift and care for a child with a neuromuscular disease.

Volunteer responsibilities include making sure that the camper has a great week while providing physical assistance with dressing, bathing and physical activities.

Activities include swimming, fishing, horseback riding, archery, zip line, arts and crafts, and dances.
