Conservation district opens sign-up period

The Douglas County Conservation District’s initial designated sign-up period for cost-share assistance is open now through July 15.

The State Conservation Commission provides funding from the Kansas Water Plan Fund on a cost-share basis to assist landowners in installing and otherwise implementing conservation and pollution-control measures for soil and water.

The district – established in 1944 – develops and implements local programs to protect and conserve soil, water, farmland, rangeland, woodland, wildlife, energy, and riparian and wetland resources.

Applications will be accepted at the district office, 1217 Biltmore Drive in Lawrence. Applications will be evaluated and ranked using a water quality assessment.
