World Co. COO earns Chairman’s Award

Patrick Knorr, chief operating officer of The World Company, received the Chairman’s Award during the annual meeting of the American Cable Association, conducted this week in Orlando, Fla.

The award recognizes Knorr’s two years of service as chairman of the association, whose membership of 1,100 independent operators provides cable television, high-speed broadband and phone service to more than 7 million consumers in all 50 states.

When members elected Knorr chairman in 2006, he was serving as director of strategic planning for The World Company and as general manager of one of its divisions, Sunflower Broadband, which provides cable, Internet and telephone service in Lawrence and several other communities in northeast Kansas. He has been The World Company’s chief operating officer since Jan. 1.

Taking over for Knorr as chairman is Steve Friedman, of Wave Broadband, a provider in Washington and California.
