Douglas County Commissioners Tuesday afternoon gave unanimous approval for filming of a movie about Lawrence crop artist Stan Herd to begin today on private property east of Lawrence.

Production for the movie “Earthwork” will be on the property of John and Karen Pendleton, 1446 E. 1850 Road. No area neighbors protested the permit, required because more than 10 employees will be working there.

Filming may also take place some on the property of Jason and Judy Dexter, 2082 E. 100 Road, which is near Lecompton.

The permit runs through Aug. 25, but the production company said it will film during only a portion of that time in the next month.

Producers have already won City Commission approval to close the 800 block of Massachusetts Street to vehicle traffic for filming. That filming is scheduled to last from 6 a.m. to midnight Monday.
