To the editor:

Thanks to Mike Hoeflich for reminding all of us of our responsibility to the community. As the 2008 United Way campaign chair, I could not agree more. In September, along with hundreds of business and community leaders, we will be inviting everyone in Douglas County to invest in our community through United Way.

Our goal this year is greater than money. Our theme, “United Way begins with U,” emphasizes the participation of everyone! Mike is right, it is important to alleviate suffering, but even more important is supporting programs that help people improve their lives and therefore strengthen the community. United Way’s 25 partner agencies are among the many organizations that do just that. Thanks Mike, for challenging us to keep our community strong.
