To the editor:

Thank you to Congressman Dennis Moore for listening to thousands of Kansans and promising to solve the global warming crisis. Committing to the Waxman Principles is a great first step. We need investment in clean energy like wind and solar, more energy-efficient cars, appliances and homes, and a limit on how much pollution gets dumped into our air.

Kansans know the debate is over, global warming is here – our communities are already feeling the impacts from some of the worst floods, tornados and severe storms that we’ve ever seen. The fact is, our children and grandchildren may inherit a very different world than the one we grew up in.

The good news is that Kansans are doing their part: changing light bulbs, driving less and buying more efficient appliances. We need our leaders in Congress to do their part, too.

Rep. Moore has the chance to be a real champion for global warming solutions by signing on to the Safe Climate Act, the only legislation that does what the science says we must to stop the worst impacts of global warming.

This election year, global warming is a priority to thousands of voters in Lawrence and Overland Park. Whoever represents us in Congress must do everything in their power to fight global warming.

Our way of life in Kansas depends on it.
