27th St. woes

To the editor:

The controversy goes on and on. Maybe we don’t really need the South Lawrence Trafficway after all. We already have the South 27th Trafficway!

It could also be called the South 27th Pothole Trafficway. For those of us who live in Indian Hills, 27th Street is a major artery for going places: schools, south Iowa shopping, auto mechanics and so on. The street has become a major artery for many others it seems, and we are in need of traffic calming!

Take a drive on West Harvard Road – ample speed-calming devices. If my memory serves me correctly, they were installed after a child was hit on Harvard Road. Twenty-seventh Street is also a major walking street for kids going to and from Broken Arrow and South Junior High. So far, no child has been hit.

Besides heavy traffic, there also seems to be a drainage problem along 27th Street at various intervals, and this spring, the potholes emerged as fast as the city could patch them. Every time I called the “pothole report” line (yes, we really do have one), it wasn’t long before city crews were out there on the job. Thanks, guys!

It would be great if the city fathers would take another look at 27th Street.
