KU student in coma after accident while studying abroad

A 20-year-old Kansas University student is in a Paris, France, hospital after sustaining an injury this weekend while studying abroad, KU officials confirmed Sunday afternoon.

Shannon Tuley, a sophomore from Overland Park, is in a coma after suffering a fall, said J.T. Tuley, her father.

KU officials have offered assistance to the family.

“She is currently hospitalized, and local officials are investigating to determine the circumstances surrounding her injury,” KU spokeswoman Jill Jess said in a statement provided to the Journal-World.

Jess, citing federal laws and regulations, declined to provide further information about the nature of the injuries. Shannon Tuley’s mother, Laurie Tuley, is in Paris with her daughter.
