Papa John’s is moving its Lawrence pizzeria next month to a former laundry-and-bar near the Kansas University campus.

The restaurant, 2223 La., will be vacated during the next couple weeks, and its equipment and employees will be relocated to 918 Miss., formerly home to Duds and Suds.

“It’s just a better location,” said Nick Raya, Papa John’s manager.

Raya anticipates keeping his staff at its current level of 15 to 20 employees, he said, but that number could increase depending on how the new restaurant performs.

While the new restaurant will have a familiar look – even the exterior sign at 2223 La. has been relocated to the new place – it will have added features, Raya said: four or five interior tables, each able to seat six people, plus a patio for outdoor dining.

Raya anticipates completing the move by the end of next week.
