Lies and lies

To the editor:

On Jan. 26, 1998, President Clinton lied to the American people by stating he “did not have sex with that woman.” The outraged Christian Republican Congress considered his act so despicable and egregious they immediately began impeachment proceedings against President Clinton, a Democrat.

Some 10 years later, it is documented President Bush and his Republican administration also lied, this time about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction to the American people some 935 times leading up to the invasion of Iraq with the president personally contributing 259 lies in various media events to justify his war.

What has been the reaction of the congressional Republicans, stalwart defenders of morality, honesty, integrity, ethics and tenets of Christian morality and goodness against this heinous crime by the president? Duh : none!

What has been the reaction of the Democrats, who, if elected, swore to hold Bush responsible and end war in Iraq? Duh : none!

It appears Congress believes political lies are acceptable and presidents have special privilege, are above the law. Perhaps the last thing Congress wants is any investigation into lies by those in government elected by making promises to voters they really have no intention of keeping!

Clinton’s lie was about personal behavior. Bush’s lies to date have killed 4,000 American soldiers and cost $9 billion a month in his never-ending war of choice and Congress deliberately chooses to pay no heed to how it all began.

What a sad bunch of hypocritical political cowards, all of them!
