Board urges changes to No Child Left Behind

School board members unanimously approved a resolution Monday night that encourages Congress to make changes the federal No Child Left Behind act.

Board member Marlene Merrill had asked board members to support a current U.S. House bill that gives states more flexibility, including of moving more toward testing individual students over several years.

“It fits into our belief that all children can learn and be successful, but it does not provide the arbitrary measure of the current law,” Merrill said.

Kansas Association of School Boards and 59 other districts have also supported the legislation, Merrill said.
