Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 20-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman Wednesday for auto burglary. Police were dispatched to the parking lot of Best Buy, 2021 W. 31st St., to check on the welfare of a 46-year-old Perry woman. The woman reported that private property valued at $223 was missing from her Chevy Impala. According to a police report, a 26-year-old Best Buy employee reported seeing a subject dressed in pajamas getting into the back of a van. Police in the 800 block of Massachusetts Street stopped a van matching the employee’s description. The person driving the van was not arrested or cited for any crime, said Kim Murphree, Lawrence police spokeswoman. After an investigation, police located the 20-year-old woman at 4:30 p.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Perry Street in Lawrence. She was identified as the subject getting into the van at Best Buy and was arrested on one charge of auto burglary and a Wyandotte County warrant for aggravated kidnapping. Officers recovered and returned the stolen property.

¢ A dog bit an Ottawa police officer Wednesday night while he responded to a disturbance call at a house in the 900 block of South Highland Street. The officer was not injured. The bite did not break the officer’s skin, said Capt. Randy Allan, an Ottawa police spokesman. A 27-year-old woman was given notice to appear in Ottawa Municipal Court on charges of harboring a vicious animal, no proof of vaccination and no city registration.

¢ Lawrence police are investigating a report that a 22-year-old woman was raped by a 27-year-old Lawrence man at the victim’s western Lawrence residence. According to a police report, the incident occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. Sunday. The suspect and victim are recent acquaintances, according to the report. The report has been sent to the district attorney’s office for review. Lawrence police said no further details were available.
