School boundary forum slated for tonight

Parents can attend a public forum tonight about proposed changes in school boundaries that would affect students who live in Gaslight Village Mobile Home Park, 1900 W. 31st St.

The 16 students who live there attend Southwest Junior High School, but plans call for them to move to South Junior High School, which is nearby.

The forum will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the South cafeteria, 2734 La. Tom Bracciano, division director for operations and facility planning, will answer questions.

The board also has approved shifting an area east of Lawrence and north of Kansas Highway 10 into the Central Junior High School district from South. No junior high students currently live there.

If the school board approves the changes in February, they will take effect this fall.

In keeping with district custom, administrators have said Gaslight Village students who attend Southwest can complete junior high school there, but they must provide their own transportation to school.
