School boundary forums set

Under proposal, Gaslight Village students would move to South Junior High

Parents can attend public forums tonight and Thursday about proposed changes in school boundaries that would affect students who live in Gaslight Village Mobile Home Park, 1900 W. 31st St.

The 16 students who live there attend Southwest Junior High, but plans call for them to move to South Junior High, which is nearby.

Forums will be 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the Southwest cafeteria, 2511 Inverness Drive, and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the South cafeteria, 2734 La. Tom Bracciano, division director for operations and facility planning, will answer questions.

The board also has approved shifting an area east of Lawrence and north of Kansas Highway 10 into the Central Junior High district from South. No junior high students currently live there.

If the school board approves the changes in February, they will take effect this fall.

In keeping with district custom, administrators have said Gaslight Village students who attend Southwest can complete junior high school there, but they must provide their own transportation to school.
