Headquarters seeks volunteer counselors

Headquarters Counseling Center will conduct orientation sessions for people interested in becoming volunteer counselors, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the coffee shop at Borders Books, Music & Cafe, 700 N.H.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, needs volunteers of all ages to work in their Moppets program. Volunteers are needed to care for children age 6 or younger and direct them in crafts, music and a Bible-based lesson. Volunteers can sign up for one semester at a time or as a substitute.

MOPS will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month during the school year at Lawrence Free Methodist Church, 3001 Lawrence Ave.

¢ The Lawrence Community Shelter is in need of a volunteer evening meal coordinator who can seek out and schedule churches, organizations and individuals interested in preparing and serving meals at the overnight shelter. Volunteers will commit to work five hours a week.

¢ Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice is looking for a volunteer coordinator to oversee recruitment, scheduling and retention of volunteers.

This volunteer will help determine volunteer needs for the VNA program, lead volunteer orientations and assign volunteers to assignments. Other duties include clerical and office support, and patient check-in. The volunteer will work about 20 hours a week on a long-term basis.

¢ Volunteers are sought to provide child care for children with special needs and their siblings at the NAMI Kansas Visions for Tomorrow Course, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 4 through March 24. Classes will be at the Community Health Building, 200 Maine.
