Unfair policy

To the editor:

Blue MedicareRx division of Blue Cross-Blue Shield has a policy on co-pay that is preventing its insured Medicare customers from helping lower drug costs! Their policy of charging double co-pay for customers who are willing to split some drug capsules is to blame. Blue MedicareRx gets all the benefit of such a practice and charges the customer more in co-pay for doing so. Thus the incentive to split is gone!

Splitting saves money because of the pricing policy of the drug companies. The drug wholesaler charges the same for different dose levels, 10, 20, 40 60, or 80 milligrams per capsule. The consumer can get his required dose by splitting 20mg to get 10mg dose, for example. So why shouldn’t the consumer get some benefit from this procedure and at the same time lower the cost to the insurance company?
