Too picky

To the editor:

City Commissioner Amyx states, “It seems to me that we’re behind the times in regards to economic development.”

May I ask some therapy questions?

1. When did you first notice it? Oh! Is that right?

2. Please tell me more. Oh, my! What are we gonna do? When was your first clue?

Could it have been the business that wanted Lawrence but ended up in Ottawa? Or was it the Wal-Mart at Sixth and Wakarusa that you dragged your feet on, wishing it would go away while wasting valuable time and money? Or was it Hallmark Cards Inc. in 1956 and 1957, when they faced opposition when they wanted to be a part of Lawrence?

If you eat as slowly as you plan, think and act, all of you will surely starve to death at your commission table.

You might want to turn this around. Get business and industry in to help pay the bills and taxes so that each of us may enjoy Lawrence, Kansas. I will be your best booster. Quit being so picky.

Eugene Reding,

Lawrence
