Free State’s Mitch Moore won the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, and the Firebirds’ 200 freestyle relay team of Julian McCafferty, Eric Gruber, Kendall Harris and Moore qualified for state in a high school swim quadrangular Tuesday at Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center.

Free State finished second behind Blue Valley West. BV West totaled 403 points, followed by Free State with 271, Blue Valley with 245 and Kansas City Turner with 26.

“We had a lot of exciting races,” FSHS coach Annette McDonald said. “I think overall the team swam well, and we’re pleased with the second-place finish.”
