Reward increased for robbery information

A reward for information leading to arrests in New Year’s Eve robberies of two Lawrence liquor stores has been increased to $3,000.

The Lawrence-Douglas County CrimeStoppers Association added an additional $2,000 to the reward.

About 7:50 p.m. Dec. 31, a man wearing a tan ball cap, a dark heavy jacket and dark pants robbed Hird Retail Liquors, 601 Kasold Drive. He displayed a handgun.

About an hour later at 8:48 p.m., a man carrying a handgun robbed Glass House Liquor, 2301 Wakarusa Drive. The suspect was described as a man with a thin build, about 6-feet-2, and wearing a black coat and dark pants.

Police haven’t said whether they think the same man might have robbed both stores. If you have information that might help police, call 843-TIPS. All calls remain anonymous, and CrimeStoppers doesn’t subscribe to caller identification.
