Flu shots offered at clinic this evening

It’s not too late to get a flu shot.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will conduct a flu shot clinic from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today on the first floor meeting room in the Community Health Facility, 200 Maine.

“Flu season is typically associated with the fall, but the truth is, flu illness doesn’t usually occur until late January or February,” said DeeAnn Schoenfeld, immunization charge nurse.

The flu vaccine costs $18 for infants up to age 3 and $23 for those ages 3 and older. However, no one will be denied service for inability to pay, health officials said.

Clients eligible for Medicare Part B, HealthWave, Medicaid and Blue Cross/Blue Shield can receive the flu shot at no charge if they present their card.

Flu shots are also available at the health department during regular business hours.
