City sidewalks

To the editor:

There has been a lot of talk lately about snow removal on sidewalks and how those who own homes and businesses should act responsibly and clear their sidewalks in a timely manner. I heartily agree, and I make a point of clearing my own sidewalk quickly after a snowfall.

Our city government, however, seems to be less concerned about following its own ordinances; the sidewalk on the south side of the Traffic Engineering building at Fourth and Mississippi was not cleared once following the recent storms. I walk my children to and from school every day along this sidewalk and it quickly becomes icy and treacherous. I have called to register a complaint about this situation, so far with no result. Is it asking too much for the city to meet the minimum expectations it has for the rest of us and clear these areas promptly?
