KU women close non-con slate with 62-60 win at Xavier

Behind 24 points from sophomore Danielle McCray, the Kansas University women’s basketball team avenged last year’s home loss to Xavier Friday night in Cincinnati with a 62-60 win.

The victory puts the Jayhawks at 11-2 with Big 12 conference play now on the horizon. The women open the league slate Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse against Oklahoma State, who the Jayhawks defeated last season in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament.

McCray was 10-of-20 from the floor on the night, including a 4-of-9 showing from three-point range. On the offensive end, junior point guard Ivana Catic was 2-of-2 from long range, finishing with 10 points and six assists. Freshman Krysten Boogaard again got the start in the paint and ended the night with nine points and eight rebounds.

Sophomore Sade Morris scored just seven points, but had three key free throws down the stretch in icing the win.

Defensively, KU quieted 6-foot-5 Xavier forward Amber Harris, who dominated the Jayhawks inside a year ago. Harris finished with just seven points and seven boards in 37 minutes of play.
