Fair housing seminar set for March 7

A Fair Housing and Rental Housing in Kansas seminar will be conducted from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 7 at the United Way of Douglas County building, 2518 Ridge Court.

Guest speakers – including Michelle Smith, fair housing manager for the city of Lawrence; and Robert Baker, tenant-landlord counselor for Housing and Credit Counseling Inc. – will address fair housing issues and concerns, including how to file a fair housing complaint based on federal law.

The seminar also will include a review of the Kansas Residential Landlord/Tenant Act, explaining the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords including the screening process, maintenance, security deposits and other issues.
