The World Company won four Media Innovation Awards on Monday at the Newspaper Association of America's Marketing Conference in Orlando, Fla.

In the category for newspapers with less than 75,000 daily circulation, these nominations earned the top award:

¢ Best Overall News Site, LJWorld.com.

¢ Best Local Guide or Entertainment Site, lawrence.com.

¢ Best Local Shopping and Directory Strategy for Lawrence Marketplace.

¢ Most Innovative Multimedia Storytelling for "24 Hours In Lawrence."

"We're honored to receive recognition for our efforts and continue to focus on fostering a highly informed, connected community that positively improves both the quality of information we have and the ways in which we interact," said Dan Cox, president of Mediaphormedia, the interactive and software division of The World Company.

The World Company, which also owns the Journal-World, was the only media organization honored with four top awards. LJWorld .com also was nominated for best site design and best architecture.

"For our main Web sites - Lawrence.com, LJWorld.com and Marketplace - all to be selected as the best in class across the country and competing with papers much larger than ours is tremendous," said Patrick Knorr, The World Company chief operating officer. "The award for multimedia coverage recognizes that we are not only working to deliver on the Internet but using all of our media assets together to deliver a better product."

NAA members account for nearly 90 percent of the daily newspaper circulation in the United States.

Is there an award for obtusely worded headlines?? the LJW would take top honors.

I used to think it was a nice attaboy for the paper to list its achievements. After all, it's really the people behind the paper that have the talent. After about 4 of these stories per year it gets a bit thin. Perhaps they could create a whole other website or special edition print product consisting of nothing but their accolades.

They didn't mention that the Journal-World came in second place for Most Intelligent Online Discussion Boards?

Wow! More awards...

But why? They tend to not report things that are vital to this town... I always see the KC news trucks in town and no mention of what brought them here on the 6 news or in the paper until at least 12 hours later... Good thing i channel and web surf at 6 and 10
