The World Company wins media awards

The World Company won four Media Innovation Awards on Monday at the Newspaper Association of America’s Marketing Conference in Orlando, Fla.

In the category for newspapers with less than 75,000 daily circulation, these nominations earned the top award:

¢ Best Overall News Site, LJWorld.com.

¢ Best Local Guide or Entertainment Site, lawrence.com.

¢ Best Local Shopping and Directory Strategy for Lawrence Marketplace.

¢ Most Innovative Multimedia Storytelling for “24 Hours In Lawrence.”

“We’re honored to receive recognition for our efforts and continue to focus on fostering a highly informed, connected community that positively improves both the quality of information we have and the ways in which we interact,” said Dan Cox, president of Mediaphormedia, the interactive and software division of The World Company.

The World Company, which also owns the Journal-World, was the only media organization honored with four top awards. LJWorld .com also was nominated for best site design and best architecture.

“For our main Web sites – Lawrence.com, LJWorld.com and Marketplace – all to be selected as the best in class across the country and competing with papers much larger than ours is tremendous,” said Patrick Knorr, The World Company chief operating officer. “The award for multimedia coverage recognizes that we are not only working to deliver on the Internet but using all of our media assets together to deliver a better product.”

NAA members account for nearly 90 percent of the daily newspaper circulation in the United States.
