Rezoning would quash dense complex

Bottom line

City commissioners will consider rezoning property near Seventh and Wisconsin streets to a designation that will make it less likely to develop with a dense apartment complex.

Background

The property up for rezoning is the south half of 1803 W. Sixth Street and 1710 W. Seventh Street. The rezoning would change the property’s zoning from RM24 Multiple Family Residential to RSO Single-Dwelling Residential-Office. The property previously had been the site of a proposed apartment complex that drew opposition from neighbors in 2004. City commissioners denied the apartment complex plans and initiated the rezoning request over the objection of one of the property owners. The issue went to court with the city prevailing.
