KU’s NCAA Tourney hopes take another hit as Jayhawks fall to Mizzou, 62-59

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Kansas University women’s basketball team’s dwindling hopes of an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament may have taken a knockout blow Sunday, as KU remained winless on the road in Big 12 play this season following a 62-59 loss at Missouri.

KU was down 56-55 with just over a minute to play, when Missouri put together a crucial four-point trip up the floor. The Tigers made one of two free throws, but after the back end of the trip missed, MU grabbed the offensive board and sophomore Toy Richbow hit the clinching three-pointer, putting the Tigers up by five. The win improved MU to just 2-11 in league play this year and 9-17 overall. KU is now 15-12 overall and 4-9 in the Big 12.

Sophomore Danielle McCray led KU with 19 points to go with seven rebounds. Freshman Nicollette Smith scored 15, and sophomore Sade Morris finished with 11.

MU’s Alyssa Hollins led all scorers with 26 points.

KU takes on Texas Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhousee.
