Thursday’s snow leads KU to cancel classes; other community events called off

Rusty Mather clears snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of Buffalo Bob's BBQ Smokehouse, amidst a winter storm on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.
It’s safe to clear the sidewalks because no more accumulation is expected, said Jennifer Schack, 6News chief meteorologist.
Thus far, Lawrence has received .8 inches of snow and ice. Precipitation should be light with no accumulation this evening, she said.
“There is still a chance for snow late tonight and into tomorrow,” Schack said. “It won’t be as heavy as expected, but an additional dusting.”
By 9 p.m. the temperature will fall to 19 degrees and the overnight low will be 16 degrees.
The inclement weather is causing cancellations and rescheduling of events.
