Mailbox casualties

To the editor:

The city has been prompt and active at clearing streets of the snows that we have been having. However, the toll on mailboxes is excessive. Mine was wiped out in the processes of clearing snow this past Sunday morning. This is not the first time. I noticed in the area of 19th and Harper in the few blocks west on 19th and a couple blocks north on Harper, at least 18 mailboxes, about one out of three, had been knocked sidewise or worse.

Mine and at least three or four others were significantly damaged. I appreciate the street cleaning but not the damage to mailboxes. I have also noticed a lot of damage to curbing. Can’t this job be done without running into every third mailbox?
