State’s taxing effort to fight breast cancer

Kansas residents can help finance the battle against breast cancer by donating part of their refunds from their state tax returns.

By checking box 38C on their state income tax returns, a Kansas taxpayer would make a donation to the “File and Fight” campaign.

The campaign will send money into the Kansas Breast Cancer Research Fund to finance research at the Kansas University Cancer Center.

The campaign is the result of efforts led by Dr. Roy Jensen, the center’s director, and state Sen. Barbara Allen, R-Overland Park, who is a breast cancer survivor.

The campaign theme is “Help Turn a Red State Into a Pink One,” and organizers hope the traditional association of the color pink with breast cancer will encourage taxpayers to help fund the campaign, which keeps all money in Kansas.
