Lions snag second place

? Lawrence High qualified eight wrestlers for the Class 6A state tournament, while Free State High qualified two after Saturday’s regional tournament at Leavenworth High.

The Lions finished second at the regional with 136 points, while Free State finished eighth with 15.5 points. Shawnee Mission East won with 200 points.

Lawrence will send Tien Truong (112 pounds, third), Chris Lane (119, fourth), Levi Flohrschutz (125, third), Jake Pfannenstiel (130, first), Blake Greenfield (135, first), Dustin Walthall (152, third), Brian Cain (160, first) and Ryan Waller (171, fourth) to state, which will run Friday and Saturday in Wichita.

Free State will send Jack Caywood (140, fourth) and Julian Kuszmaul (189, third) to state.

LHS trailed Shawnee Mission South, which finished third, by 10 before the medal rounds.

The Lions finished an impressive 6-2 in the medal rounds and leapfrogged the Raiders for second place.
