2 students nominated to be Truman scholars

Two Kansas University juniors have been nominated for Harry S. Truman scholarships.

Amanda Marie Shriwise, of Overland Park, and Aaron Michael Reinke, of Stilwell, are competing nationally for the awards of up to $30,000. The awards are earmarked for students preparing to take leadership roles in public service.

The two students should find out in the next week if they’re among the 200 finalists. There are 75 scholarships available.

The recipients use the money to pursue a graduate degree. Sixteen KU students have earned Truman scholarships since the program’s inception in 1977.
