Relationships in all their wonderful and woeful glory were celebrated, mourned and mocked at Thursday's "The Ex-Show."

About 20 artists presented mixed media at the 4-1-1 Studio, 411 E. Ninth St., demonstrating the range of emotions felt after a terminated relationship.

"Some of it's kind of heart-wrenching; some of it's kind of funny," said KT Walsh, a Lawrence artist and one of about 30 people at the show, which was part of the Percolator series.

Andrea Repinsky's work was a bit of both. The 31-year-old Lawrence artist and urban planner created images of Valentine's candy hearts with unique personal messages transcribed on them. The messages were "all told to me personally by jerks," Repinsky said.

Her personal favorite: "If you were dying, I wouldn't give you a kidney."

"That one had me cracking up for a couple of years," she said.

She also completed a Lawrence anxiety map of "all the places where I felt like throwing up when I rode my bike through them," because they reminded her of an ex, she said.

The art show was created by Jill Ensley, 30, a Kansas University senior. She said she was pleased to see humorous pieces.

"I was worried about it being too awkward or too angry," she said.
