Corporate greed

To the editor:

I am a Lawrence resident and I try to do what is right by my family and neighbors. I enjoy being outdoors whenever possible and when the air quality allows.

I cannot tolerate many things that move through the air. Things as simple as charcoal grills being started, exhausted air from dryer vents or exhaust from diesel trucks force me to go inside. The polluted air can cause me to have headaches, feel nauseous and dizzy, make me cough and cause my eyes to burn. There are many people in the state of Kansas that cannot tolerate the pollution in our air.

So I am asking legislators to stop the construction of more coal-fired power plants and push for clean air solutions to meet the state’s power needs.

The proposed construction of two coal-fired plants in western Kansas is not driven by the need for more electrical power for Kansas, but by greed, The profits made by selling power produced at these plants will go to people/companies outside of the state. But Kansas residents will be left with the depletion of western Kansas aquifers and increased air and surface water pollution.

This great country will not be brought down by terrorists, but by personal and corporate greed.

Betty Henderson,

Lawrence
