Free State girls fall at SM North, 51-38

? The Free State High girls basketball team traveled to Shawnee Mission North on Monday night and came home with a 51-38 loss.

Free State (8-9 overall, 4-4 Sunflower League) enjoyed a two-point lead at halftime and led by as many as seven points midway through the second quarter.

The game’s pace favored the Firebirds for two quarters but in the second half the Indians turned up the tempo and Free State, which played with just one substitute off the bench for most of the night, ran out of gas.

“In the second half, they just kicked our tails,” FSHS coach Bryan Duncan said.

Next up, the Firebirds will play host to SM West, Friday night at 6 p.m.
