Centro Hispano seeks child care assistance for its women’s group, which meets every other Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Snacks and activities are provided. Volunteers may contact Lydia Leon, at 843-2039 or lydia@centrohispanolawrence.org.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Sandcastles, an organization that assists children who experience life-altering illnesses, needs assistance with fundraising and promotion. The organization has meetings at 7 p.m. every third Thursday at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, 802 W. 22nd St. For more information, contact Tina or Ken at 840-0044.

¢ Vermont Towers, a housing facility located at 11th and Vermont streets, is in need of volunteers to plan and coordinate activities and games for seniors. Contact Ashley Crowl at 865-5030 to volunteer.

¢ A volunteer is needed to assist a blind woman with her guide dog. The dog needs to be taken outside for a walk every morning and evening. For more information, contact Crystal Lucas at 843-8157.

¢ Youth volunteers are sought to become involved in Youth Volunteer Council, a group of middle and high school students who work together to do community service projects in the Lawrence area. Contact Ben Johnson or Rachael Perry at the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, 865-5030.

¢ Volunteers are needed to provide companionship and support to senior citizens through Douglas County Senior Services’ Friendly Visitor Program.
