Man gets probation for house arson
A judge on Friday sentenced a Douglas County man to serve two years of community corrections probation for setting his family’s home and property on fire Nov. 9, 2007, during a 10-hour standoff with law enforcement near Pleasant Grove.
Darrel Maley, 58, told District Judge William Lyle that he had made strides lately in his psychiatric treatment since he has been released on bond after the plea.
Maley had pleaded guilty on Dec. 18 to an arson charge because his wife, Pam Maley, had an interest in the property. Pam Maley filed for divorce Nov. 30. That proceeding is pending.
Lyle also scheduled a restitution hearing for April 11 to determine how much money he owes for the destruction. If Maley violates his probation, a judge could sentence him to serve 20 months in prison.
