Legion’s dining hall to close this month
The dining hall in the Lawrence American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 building, 3408 W. Sixth St., will close at the end of this month.
“It’s simply a matter of not getting enough participation to keep our dining room operating,” Post Commander Jerome Hanson said. “It’s strictly a financial decision, and it’s not going to affect anything else at the post.”
The dining hall is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and has been for years. It has a staff of eight employees.
The number of post members eating at the hall on those nights has declined, Hanson said. The post hopes to rent the dining hall for gatherings such as receptions.
The lounge will remain open on Thursday nights when a band performs.
