Help available for filling out financial aid forms
Lawrence families can get help this weekend filling out financial aid forms, particularly if they’re sending their first child to college.
“We walk the student and family through the financial aid maze and give them a good head start,” said Julia Rombough, the Lawrence site coordinator for College Goal Sunday.
To meet with financial aid experts, teens heading into their first year of college next fall and their parents can attend College Goal Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Kansas University’s Eaton Hall Room 1005.
“If they think they can’t afford (college), this is an opportunity for them to find out ways they can afford it,” said Rombough, who is financial aid director at Pinnacle Career Institute in Lawrence.
Volunteers from KU, Ottawa University and Sinte Gleska University in South Dakota will be there to assist families in filling out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Families should bring their 2007 completed tax forms, a W2 form or a pay stub from December to help fill out the electronic application.
At the Lawrence site, all students who attend will be eligible for drawings of four $500 scholarships. Rombough said typically 100 people attend.
The event is sponsored by USA Funds and coordinated by the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
