Coordinator hired for child care licensing

Karen Flanders is the new coordinator for the child care licensing program at the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department.

Flanders has been a child care surveyor with the department for the past two years.

Through its licensing program, the department conducts initial inspections of day care homes and centers, on-site annual evaluations and consultations. The department also provides information for people interested in becoming licensed or registered child care providers, and investigates complaints.

Flanders takes over for Tina Ferguson, who had been coordinator for the past 10 years before leaving for a new job at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Ferguson now is KDHE’s administrator for training/policy and procedure programs for the department’s child placing agency and residential programs.
