Travel agent visits China conference

Chris Armstrong, president of Travel Leaders, Lawrence, recently participated in the International Conference on Revitalization of Tourism and Confronting Crisis, conducted in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province in China.

The China National Tourist Administration invited Armstrong to attend the conference, which was organized by the administration, Sichuan’s provincial government and the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The event also received support from the Pacific Asia Tourism Association.

Discussion topics included dealing with national emergencies in the context of travel and tourism. Among emergencies discussed were an earthquake that ravaged Sichuan province in May, and a tsunami that struck Southeast Asia in December 2004.

Armstrong’s agency, formerly known as Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates, has been sending groups and individuals to China for nearly 15 years.
