Police are looking for a suspect who shot at a car outside of Cross Town Tavern early Saturday morning.

Officers recovered nine shell casings outside of the tavern, located at 1910 Haskell Ave. Sgt. Ted Bordman of the Lawrence Police Department said that two rounds struck the passenger-side rear window and passenger-side door of a Chevrolet HHR. There were four men in the vehicle, none of whom were injured.

Bordman said that officers are looking for more information regarding the suspect’s description. The men in the Chevrolet couldn’t provide any suspect information and didn’t know why the suspect shot at the car. Few witnesses were available at Cross Town Tavern when police arrived.

“Most of the people had left by the time we got there,” he said.

One witness at the tavern described the shooter as a 6-foot skinny black man wearing an all-fur zebra-striped jacket. The witness said that the suspect drove away in a black sport utility vehicle with brown running boards.

Emergency dispatchers received the call at 1:26 a.m. when bar patrons and employees reported hearing about 10 shots fired from outside the bar.

Tavern employees declined to comment about the incident on Saturday.
